When marking students work, use generic codes to save you writing out the same sentences every time. Simply write the letter of the code next to the place you want to give the feedback. Give each student a copy of the codes to stick in the front of their exercise book so they can refer back to them every time they are used. Add your own, subject specific, codes to the list.

Closing the Loop and Reflection lessons can be really difficult to plan and even more difficult to deliver well. It is no secret that feedback is the key to move our learners forward so it is crucial that we give them time to reflect and close the loop with some carefully planned activities. This resource contains 16 suggestions of activities/strategies you could do with your learners to ensure they are reflecting on your feedback, closing the loop and demonstrating how they are moving forwards with their learning.

Grouping cards

This resource will help you organise your students into different groups. For example, students can be arranged into ‘Rainbow Groups’ (mixed ability) and ‘Colour Groups’ (similar ability) seamlessly, allowing you to provide effective differentiation, support and challenge. Each student receives their unique card with a specific colour, shape, number and letter. The teacher assigns each student a card based on their ability. For example, if an activity requires students to work in mixed ability groups the teacher would ask students to get into their Rainbow Groups. If a teacher wanted students to complete different tasks or receive different amounts of support/challenge, then working in Colour Groups would be effective.
